Claro began with a vision to create a space where not only excellent coffee & tea are served, but conversations and ideas can be freely exchanged amongst everyone, regardless of social class, gender, race, or sexual orientation. A placement similar to the coffee houses in 17th & 18th century London where citizens of all social classes gathered together as equals to discuss current issues facing their society. These conversations helped shape the modern world as we know it today.
Through a unique partnership with First Alliance Church, who provided start-up funding as a way of giving back to a community that it has existed in for 125 years, Claro Coffee Bar is located on Adams Street right in the heart of the diverse and artistic Uptown district of Toledo. Claro means “to illuminate,” and we have taken an empty storefront and brought light to it. We fell in love with Uptown. It is a place we love to be, and we wanted to create a place where people can come and enjoy Uptown. Claro is operated independently as a for-profit enterprise to help support our community and reinvest into what already makes Uptown so great.
We’re about connecting people with each other and the best coffee & tea experience in town. We can’t wait to serve you!
